All you need to know about Beard Transplant

Beard transplant is a plastic surgery for men that is becoming more and more popular. Most of the patients are between 25 and 35 years old and have not a very well defined beard with empty areas giving them a childish appearance.

Beard transplant : how is it performed ?

A beard transplant session is similar to that of a hair transplant. This involves extracting the hair from the back of the head and replanting it into the beard. Whether the grafts are extracted by the FUE or FUT method, the most important thing is to study the indications, the contraindications and the patient's needs.

The collection of grafts on the day of the intervention

A second clinical examination is done in the morning of the intevention and the patient is put under local anaesthesia to avoid pain. Then, the surgeon starts the first part of the procedure which is the harvesting of hair follicles.

For this, there are two methods:

1st method : grafting by strip (fut)

If the surgeon or one of his or her assistants begins to cut and remove the hair strip that will serve as a graft donor area, this band of hair will be cut under a microscope in order to recover the bulbs. It is a technique that allows us to obtain a large number of implants of excellent quality.

2nd method : grafting by follicular extraction (fue and dhi)

There is no need to make an incision, just collect the follicles with a scalp, then, they are preserved in a sterilized liquid to preserve the grafts in good condition.

The implantation of grafts

Since the implantation is done manually by inserting the grafts one by one, it may take some time. It all depends on the area to be treated, but generally, a beard transplant session lasts between 3 and 5 hours.

For beard transplant by the first method, the cutting of the strip is done under a microscope. Then the practitioner will need to make microincisions through which he will insert the follicles.

For the DHI beard tranplant, practitioners use an implanter to place the hair directly in the target area. This tool therefore allows the graft to be implanted directly by controlling the angle, the depth and the direction of the implantation to obtain a perfectly natural result without making any incisions.

For the patients who have practically no beard, it is possible to have another session the next day to solve the problem of the lack of hair on the beard.

Beard transplant : the postoperative phases

The patient can leave the clinic immediately after the procedure and have a normal life. He can shave after three weeks.
