DHI hair transplant : an innovative technique to prevent hair loss

DHI hair transplant (Direct Hair Implantation) is a revolutionary surgical technique that aims at stimulating hair bulb growth and treating baldness. Conceived about twenty years ago by French doctors, the DHI method is characterized by its similarity to the FUE technique and by its effectiveness against hair loss.

This hair transplant technique is highly recommended for people, male or female, who suffer from a moderate alopecia.

DHI hair transplant : how is it performed ?

Like any cosmetic surgery, DHI hair transplant is always preceded by a medical consultation in order to detect the contraindications as well as the specificities of the patient's scalp. During this consultation, the surgeon will determine the number of hair follicles to be implanted according to the degree of the patient’s baldness.

1st step

It consists in delimiting the capillary areas to be grafted and which are generally located beyond the forehead. The donor area will generally be the neck, which is characterized by strong capillary bulbs.

2nd step

A local anaesthetic will be performed in the areas to be implanted. The anaesthesia aims at paralyzing the donor area, from which the follicular units will be selected.

3rd step

The follicular units will be extracted from the occipital area (the neck), under the conditions of a total asepsis through a very fine needle called a micromotor.

4th step

The extracted hair follicles will be sorted according to their resistance and the quality of the bulbs. They will then be incorporated into sterilized implanters.

5th step

The follicular units are rooted using an implanter made of a bevelled tip needle allowing the follicle to be easily inserted into the scalp

With its spring piston system, the surgeon will exert pressure to the follicle and implant it directly under the capillary layer, without making incisions like the FUT or the FUE technique.

6th step

The intervention ends with the disinfection of the operated areas (donors and recipients) and the installation of a compressive band to be worn during the first 24 hours after the procedure.

DHI hair transplant : the postoperative phases

DHI hair transplant is a minimally invasive procedure that does not require a long recovery. Almost painless during the first few days, it causes only a few rednesses in the grafted points.

However, the patient must follow the surgeon's instructions and advices in order to recover quickly and avoid complications.
