How is facial plastic surgery performed ?
All what you need to know before starting a facial plastic surgery
Before a facelift, the surgeon examines the patient, detects the sagging skin, the area in which the wrinkles are a little deeper, etc.
During this preoperative consultation, the surgeon also decides on the type of the facelift procedure : should he perform a cervico-facial lift, a temporal, a malar or a frontal lift?
The different techniques of the facial plastic surgery and the anesthesia
Mini-lifts
Mini-lifts allow to target a specific part of the face. For example :
-
Malar lift treats the sagging skin on the cheekbones;
-
Forehead lift eliminates forehead wrinkles;
-
Temporal lift removes the wrinkles of the temples.
The facelift can be associated with a blepharoplasty to rejuvenate the look.
The cervico-facial lift should be realized when there is a deep sagging skin on the neck.The choice of the type of the anesthesia is made after the consultation with the anesthesiologist who will take his time to ask the patient about his medical background and to examinate his medical report.
Surgical technique of the cervico-facial lift
The cervico-facial lift treats both cutaneous and muscular sagging on the neck and the face. The surgeon follows these steps :
-
He starts by making an incision around the ears, treating the muscle sagging and then cutting off the excess of skin.
-
At the end, he straightens the rest while verifying that he does not let the facial features frozen and drawn.
At the end of the procedure, the surgeon makes sutures on the skin without pulling so that it naturally follows the features of the redesigned face and then puts a compressive bandage around the head.
For a complete facelift, the procedure can last between 60 and 120 minutes. The hospitalization lasts 2 days.
Surgical follow-up of the facelift procedure
The bandage around the head will be removed the day after the procedure and before leaving the clinic.
Bruises appear from the third postoperative day and disappear after 10 days. During this period, any physical effort must be avoided.
The scars are hidden under the hair.
You can return to work after 10 days of your intervention, but it depends on the nature of work, you can discuss it with your surgeon.
Facelift results
This intervention gives the patient a visible result from the 2nd postoperative month.
The final result is observed after three months. But it will only be after the sixth month that the scars will fade. The patient appears to be at least ten years younger than his age with a young face.
