All you need to know about breast reduction

Breast reduction consists of reducing the volume of the breast and improving its shape.

Having large breasts can be hereditary and nothing can be done to prevent the mammary gland from following its natural development.

Breast reduction is the most appropriate solution for this type of problem. This procedure also corrects the breast asymmetry and the breast ptosis.

Breast reduction : the surgical technique

It is important to stop smoking at least two weeks before the surgery and avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatories and herbal supplements.

During the initial consultation with the patient, the surgeon examines her and cheks her blood tests and her medical report to be sure that she can do the intervention, then he chooses the surgical technique to be used according to several criteria such as the shape and the size of the chest, the type of the skin, etc.

  • The procedure lasts three hours.

  • The intervention is performed under general anesthesia.

The different types of incisions during breast reduction

Periareolar incision

The scar is located around the breast areola and is very similar to the one used to introduce implants.

Vertical incision

The scar extends vertically to the infra-mammary fold. This is the most common type of scars.

In inverted T

The classic inverted T scar is generally used to correct an important breast ptosis.
