FUT hair transplant to treat acute baldness
FUT hair transplant is the first surgical technique of hair transplant in the 90s. It has been applied to treat baldness. The so-called indirect grafting technique is very effective to collect a large number of grafts, It provides a large number of follicular units and is indicated for the patients who suffer from acute baldness.
FUT hair transplant : how is it perdormed ?
FUT hair transplant is performed under local anesthesia and lasts several hours.
The small groups of hair that grow on the scalp are called follicular units. So, in order to extract them and then graft them, this method follows the following steps:
The extraction of the hair band
The surgeon first makes an incision in the back of the skull In order to extract the hair follicles. He cuts a strip of the hair whose length depends on the bald area to be repopulated. In general, it varies between 10 to 25 cm in length and 2 cm in width
In order to minimize trauma to follicular units and hair follicles, the band is extracted in a single step, that is the advantage of this technique which allows to have a large number of viable follicular units. The scar is then closed with staples or stitches.
Cutting the strip and isolating the grafts
In order to collect the grafts, medical technicians take the hair band and cut it under a microscope. The technique used, called Single Strip Harvesting, provides a good quality of grafts thanks to stereoscopic binocular microscopes that enable the professionals of the hair transplant to cut out the follicular units carefully and finely.
The Incisions and the Implantation of grafts
Once the grafts are collected, the surgeon inserts the hair implants one by one into the incisions. After preserving and ensuring the growth of the hair follicles, he inserts them. Indeed, the second advantage of the FUT technique is that the surgeon uses tiny reception sites by making micro incisions. The surgeon must respect the distribution, the density and the re-growth angle of the hair for a homogeneous and a natural effect.
FUT hair transplant : the postoperative phases
FUT hair transplant is a treatment that does not cause severe pain. Resulting from a fine and a regular incision, the scar will be quickly covered as soon as the hair regrows.
The skull regains its colour after 20 days and the traces of the incisions in the recipient area fade after 10 days. Don’t worry if you notice that the implanted hair falls out after the treatment, it usually falls out after a month.
FUT hair transplant : the results
FUT hair transplant allows the patient to obtain a hair regrowth after one year of the treatment. The baldness is completely treated and the hair starts to grow from the third month, but the final result is visible after 12 months.
